A Lone Seagull

Description

The strength and vigor of seagulls that have the privilege of living in Alaska and chasing after the fishing boats is impressive. Daily, these birds get to trail behind fishing boats as the “deck technician’ flings unwanted fish parts into the sea. It is truly a beautiful sight to see these graceful creatures swiftly fly and swoop into the ocean to retrieve their share of dinner. It was an opportunity for me, after fishing for the entire day, to take a break and stare out the back of the boat at these dancers. The wind from the speed of the boat as it heads back from a day of fishing creates quite the resistance for these athletes as they compete for their meal. Their determination made them look very different to me than any other seagulls I’ve seen before.
