On Mount Lassen
$385.00 – $2,900.00
Description
I’m not one for major highways. Road trips usually take me off the beaten path, and the night I took this picture was no exception. On my way back to Oregon from California, I often take the back roads through Bishop, Mono, Susanville and Lassen Volcanic National Park. There’s a lake called Manzanita Lake, and if you stand on the north side of it during the Milky Way “season” on a clear night, you will see the band of stars stretch across the night sky right over Lassen Peak! I had scoped out the area during the day so that I would know where to place my tripod when I arrived. There’s an annoying yellow light that flashes out at the road every sixty seconds (thank you security!) and so, just like i count seconds between lighthouse beams, i counted seconds between my shots here. Sometimes, I got a little yellow hue in the picture, but I became good at counting! There’s a little green in the water, and when I looked it up when I arrived home, I saw that it is the dreaded Blue Algae that is deadly for dogs! So, even though dogs are not allowed on the trails, don’t bring yours!!
