Oregon has a reputation, with good reason, for being a fairly rainy place; At least western Oregon. So, finding a time when my schedule clears in tandem with the clouds, and the tides cooperate with the moon phases is not always an easy task. But, no one said getting a great shot should be easy! There were so many things that came together the night I took this picture. The moon was just big enough to light up the foreground. The tide was low enabling me to walk right down to the base of Haystack Rock and snuggle in to take this picture. The clouds retreated, and the Milky Way brazenly exhibited it’s magnificence. And, on top of all of that, and little did i know at the time, the bioluminescence algae in the water woke up and glowed the natural shades of blues and purples that seem out of this world. This was one of those nights when the iconic Haystack Rock had to sit back and let her sister Sea Stacks enjoy the celebrity that they so deserved.
